A mechanism is simply a device designed to transform input forces and movement into a desired set of output forces and movement. Mechanisms usually consist of moving components such as gears and gear trains, belt and chain drives and also linkages as well as friction devices such as brakes and the clutches, and structural components such as the frame also equipped with various specialized elements such as keys and pins to perform certain desirable results.
