I am in Himachal Pradesh, India (McLeod Ganj). The calendar shows many holidays for the month of October. I want to know which of these days prohibit the sale and/or consumption of alcohol. Here's one calendar's list: 2 Oct, Ghandi's birthday; 11 Oct, Maha Saptami; 12 Oct, Maha Ashtami; 13 Oct, Dussehra (Maha Navami); 16 Oct,, Bakri Id/Eid ul-Adha; 18 Oct, Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti; and 22 Oct, Karaka Chaturthi. I am American, hence was surprised to learn that today, the 3rd, was an election day and dry. It wasn't listed on the calender. Also, someone told me that public holidays are not dry, but which is which? Thanks.

Dry Days are specific days when the sale of alcohol is banned. National holidays such as Republic Day (January 26), Independence Day (August 15) and Gandhi Jayanti (October 2) are usually dry days throughout India

In addition to the above the following days are also dry days:

Muharram
The day of poll and proceeding two days in all General elections, By-Elections to Lok Sabha, Municipal Board and Panchayat.
Any other day the Government may by notification declare to be a dry day.
